7 Must Have Registry Items for the Working Mom

I remember walking into the baby store when I was registering for my first baby.  It was such an overwhelming experience. SO. MANY. THINGS.   So many things that I had no idea what they did, who they were for, when I would use them, if I would ever use them, and so on.   It would make wayyyyy more sense for baby showers to be held after moms get some actual mom-ing experience under their belt.  They would realize that you don’t really need 95% of the items that you think you need.

It is best to get advice from a mom who has been there and knows exactly what you will need and not a single thing more. Here are the 7 must-have items for every mom to add to their registry. These items are tested and proven to save you time and effort, which every mom desperately needs!

Ps. Amazon is an amazing place to set up your registry!

An Awesome Diaper Bag

So. Much. Stuff.  Seriously, you have to lug around so much stuff when you have a baby. Having a nice diaper bag with lots of compartments makes transporting the littles a million times easier.  I also highly suggest getting a diaper backpack instead of a bag. We were late to the game with this and I wish we had started using a backpack much earlier.   Having your hands free is clutch.  I love this bag because there are compartments for everything and you can access a lot of the goods without needing to dig around.  The side tissue pocket is life-changing. Who would have thought that one day I would get so excited about a wipe holder on a backpack for when my kids poop their pants.  Ahhhhhh, motherhood.

Milk It Kit- Back to Work Survival Kit

I hated schlepping my pump and pumping supplies around. I loathed washing pump parts and packing your pump bag. Totally not a fan.  Although, my pumping time was amazing.   I got 20 minutes to myself where I could focus on whatever I wanted to focus on.  I was more productive in this time than the entire rest of the day because no one interrupted me.  When I had my pumping sign up people knew to stay away.  It was so very nice.   I love this kit because it has everything you need to set up your pumping session. It includes a door hanger to stop people from walking in, a sign to put on your desk to let people know you will be back, and even tags for your milk so no one uses your breast milk as coffee creamer.

An Extra Car Seat Base

Having an extra car seat base is so very helpful!   We had one in each car and even bought one for my mother-in-law. It just made things so much easier when trying to figure out arrangements for my littles.   You never had to worry about taking out the base and reinstalling it just because you needed your husband to pick up the baby from daycare.  This is also a great price point for your registry. Just make sure that your base works with your particular car seat.

A Fancy Baby Monitor with App

I could stare at my kids all day, they are seriously the cutest. Luckily, there are baby monitors out there that allow you to do just that. Access the stream directly from your phone whenever you want. This monitor also allows you to snap photos or record video of your sweet little snuggle monsters. It also has two-way communication so you can talk to them throughout the day/night.   This ain’t your momma’s baby monitor.  Just make sure you try to get a little bit of work done, it can be tempting to watch your littles all day long,

Recordable Teddy Bear

Use this teddy bear to record a message to your baby so they can hear you whenever they want.  They just give this teddy bear a little squeeze and they will hear your voice. This is great for those littles that miss you while you are gone.  If you can also find time to Skype or Facetime during the day, that will help you both as well.

Manual Breast Pump

For the breastfeeding mommas out there, there will come a time when you forget your pumping parts and you will be stranded at work with painful, exploding boobs.   I kept a manual pump stashed in my desk for those emergency situations. Let me tell you, I had to use it multiple times and it was a lifesaver each time.  This is something that I never realized I would need as a new mom but I figured it out quickly. It’s a must for any registry.

A Few Totes

Seriously, all the totes.   I never thought I would value bags as much until I became a mother. I like to keep bags packed for different purposes. For example, I have a bag for outings to the park, when I drop them off at Grandma’s house, etc.   It just makes it easier to get out the house if you already have most of the things packed and ready to go.  You can have a bag for daycare with all of the essentials (diapers, clothes, toys, blankets. etc.) so that is one less thing that you have to pack each day.   You might as well add them to your registry so that is one less thing that you have to worry about later.

We had the extra car seat base, it was such a sanity saver when moving between our two cars. Totally worth registering for.

Let’s talk employee engagement... What a lot Let’s talk employee engagement... What a lot of leaders and business owners don’t realize is employee engagement is the #1 factor in business success. You can have the best product, in the best market, but if you don’t have engaged and committed employees, you can only go so far. Just think of the most successful companies- sure, they may have an awesome product or value-prop. But what likely sets them apart is a group of dedicated employees that are committed to the work and bringing that vision to life. For example- let’s look at Disney. Disney world is a theme park. There are plenty of theme parks. But who is behind the scene creating that Disney magic? Engaged employees actively seeking out opportunities to delight and wow their guests. When you are thinking about how to grow your business- first assess your own and your team’s engagement. Do you have a vision and mission that is easy to understand and follow? Do you make it easy for employees to bring this vision to life? Do you listen and empathize with them? Starting with those questions will ensure that you have the most powerful tool in good working order, which will multiply your success. What is a time that you have been engaged at work? Do you feel that it improved your performance and ultimately the success of your company?
Just think about it- every single failure you have Just think about it- every single failure you have experienced made you wiser. Failure makes you more resilient, stronger, more resourceful. What has been the biggest lesson you have learned from failure?
Learning this more each year! Learning this more each year!
I always try to remind myself of this in the darke I always try to remind myself of this in the darkest of times.
